Ankober in Shoa - A journey on July 23th
The weekend 23th of July we made a trip together with Gloria, Esther and Asrat to Ankober in the Province Shoa. We left Addis direction north on the federal road No. 1. We went over a high plateau to Debre Berhan (mountain of light) and then we turned right on a gravel road direction Ankober. We crossed a pass 3400 mts high. Look this fotos, this mountains are over 3700 mts:

And the view to the Great Rift Valley, thousands of meters down:

We stayed in the Ankober Palace Hotel, which is "only" 2870 mts high, on the top of the hill, where in former times the palace of the Kings of Shoa has been. A spectacular view of the porch in front of our hotel room:

We lived in a traditional loam house covered with reed, good showers, good standard:

Historically Ankober has name and fame as the seat of the shoa rulers amd became most important political center from the middle of the 18th century and until the founding of Addis Ababa as the capital of the Ethiopian Empire in 1886.
The big powers of the time, Britain, France and Italy had estabilshed diplomatic missions to the courts of the kings of the time.
